Face to face Professional Learning

Sustainability Coordinators Networking PD
Date: Tues 11 March, 3.30pm – 5.30pm at St Francis Xavier Primary School, Ballarat East.
Audience: School Sustainability Coordinators.
This session will cover what you need to get sustainability established in your school, and will allow Sustainability Coordinators to share ideas and resources with each other.

CBCA (VIC) Ballarat Clayton’s Shortlist Evening
When: Wed 19 March 2013, 6.00pm start.
This popular evening is a unique opportunity to learn about the CBCA awards entries before planning Book Week celebrations for students in your school. Books will be on sale on the night.

Open days are conducted at Sovereign Hill during the school holidays and offer free teacher entry and discounted entry for your immediate family to Sovereign Hill for the day.

Brush up your Australian History
Date: Fri 2 May, 9.30am – 3.30pm
Audience: Primary teachers who feel they need to improve their knowledge of Australian History.
Sessions throughout the conference will focus on the AusVELS History content that is expected to be delivered at Years 3 to 5.
Cost: $80 includes lunch.

Pre Book Week Presentation “Connect To Reading”
When: Sat 31 May, 11.00am – 3.30pm.
Cost: $25 for members, $30 for non-members, includes lunch and entry to Sovereign Hill.
Jane Parsons, the Children’s Book Council of Australia, Victorian judge, will discuss the books short-listed for the prestigious Children’s Book of the Year award. Lunch will be served in the Charlie Napier Hotel following the judges talk.

FREE Webinar Series for Teaching History

This year Sovereign Hill will be running professional development webinars to support teachers of history.  We have an exciting program of topics and speakers to inspire you.  All sessions are run on Blackboard Collaborate and are free for teachers.  Each webinar will bring together a range of experts to offer ideas, resources and tips for teachers in a short and sharp one-hour program.

SOVEREIGN HILL ORIENTATION WEB CONFERENCES
Dates: Thursday 6 March, Wednesday 21 May, Wednesday 6 August, Thursday 9 October, 4.00
pm to 5.00 pm Blackboard Collaborate Web Conference.
Audience: Primary and Secondary Teachers planning excursions to Sovereign Hill
These sessions will feature a virtual tour of Sovereign Hill and practical suggestions to ensure
you have a stress-free, educational and memorable visit. Education Officers will provide
practical suggestions and share good ideas to use in the classroom before and after your
visit. Book with us and we will send you a link to the online conference. Schools may negotiate
suitable dates to run a private session for your whole staff.
AUSVELS HISTORY FOR YEAR 5: THE SETTLEMENT OF VICTORIA
Dates: Tuesday 25 March, Wednesday 30 July. 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm Blackboard Collaborate

Audience: Year 5 Teachers
This session explores a free kit covering all you need to teach AusVELS History at Level 5. This
online conference will walk you through the content and skills of the curriculum and provide
on line resources and activities for your classroom. There is a strong emphasis on literacy and
history skills in the fascinating story of the 19th century settlement of our state.
HISTORY IN THE EARLY YEARS
Dates; Wednesday 30 April, Wednesday 23 July, Wednesday 15 October 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm
Blackboard Collaborate web conference
Audience: Foundation to Year 3 teachers
Sovereign Hill is establishing an expert group of teachers to develop and trial activities and
materials to teach History in the important early years of school. There will be a focus on
literacy and fun. Be the first to hear of these activities and listen to teachers as they report on
the trials they have conducted in their classrooms.
